TIPS & SECRETS FROM A NEW YORK CITY PROPOSAL, WEDDING & EVENT PLANNER

Food Trucks at Your Wedding

As a huge fan of the Red Hook contingent, I think food trucks are a fun alternative to traditional sit-down dinners. They are great for outdoor venues where your guests can walk right up to the truck and are in keeping with a relaxed, chill atmosphere that some couples crave. Worried about long lines at the trucks? Try hiring a few different trucks to help with wait time and give your guests many cuisine options.

Get that “platinum wedding” touch with customized food containers (foil wrappers, pizza boxes, sleeves) with your wedding logo and a graphic wrapper on the food truck itself.

Late Night Snacks

Late-night snacks are the perfect way to treat your guests after a long night of dancing! They can be a sweet nightcap like churros, or milk and cookies – a crunchy antidote to all the alcohol. Or, send them home with coffee and donuts for breakfast the next morning. Prefer something savory? How about mini grilled-cheese sandwiches with tomato soup shooters, bagels and cream cheese or a hot dog cart with all the fixings!

Unique Favor Ideas

Photos like these make me think that every wedding should serve ribs just so guests can wear rib bibs! More photos of this delightful wedding here.

Multi-Purpose Program

How about this wonderful multi-purpose program idea that we discovered on Brides? A great way to give your guests a little snack and share the information about your ceremony. We can see this concept being used for all sorts of different foods or even as escort cards instead of programs!

Dream Dessert on a Stick

Cheesecake lollipops are the latest trend in decadent desserts.  They’re a great addition to a “dessert tapas” table for large-scale events, or as finger food for a baby or bridal shower.  For those DIY hosts out there, click on the photo for the step-by-step instructions on how to make your own cheesecake lollipops.  Feast your eyes on these!

A Brilliant Wedding: Lorraine & Dave

We couldn’t resist sharing these final shots of Lorraine & Dave’s big day. We brought in the Cold Stone Creamery team to feature an ice cream station…it was a huge hit! Another highlight of the evening was their first dance – a choreographed dance of “New York, New York” mixed with “Dirty Water” that dazzled their guests and really set a fun tone for the evening. And finally, a private moment shared between the newlyweds in the wings of the theater. Congratulations Lorraine & Dave!

Inspiration Board: White on White

We created this beautiful white-on-white inspiration board with the following elements in mind:  texture, warm lighting and keeping things friendly and inviting.  So often an all-white color palette can end up looking sterile and bland.  But, by ensuring that we included those 3 elements and adding color with the food and drink, the result is anything but boring!

12 Unique Meal Suggestions for Your Event

Recently, a couple asked me what options could they consider for their buffet selections outside of the typical “chicken, beef or fish.” The answer is: stations!  Instead of having one long buffet line of silver serving trays, go for 4+ stations that offer unique cuisine options and decorative motifs.  Check with your caterer to see what they offer and what they can accomodate.  Overwhelmed by options?  Select 2 stations that represent your hometown and 2 that represent your favorite vacation destinations. Here’s a long list of suggestions to get you started:

  1. Bruschetta Station
  2. Macaroni & Cheese station
  3. Gourmet Pizza in mini sizes
  4. Slider bar
  5. Sushi station
  6. Sweet & Savory Crepes
  7. Mashed Potato bar
  8. Chicken Wing bar
  9. Pasta bar
  10. Stir-Fry station
  11. Yogurt Parfait bar
  12. Fajita or Taco station

A Juice Sensation

If your event takes place during the week, in the afternoon, or needs to be non-alcoholic, consider featuring a juice bar.  A table piled high with assorted fruits vegetables and special add-ons will provide your guests with their own personal Jamba Juice.  Most caterers are able to accomodate a juice bar with a few weeks’ notice and you can offer anything from a traditional fresh-squeezed orange juice to a protein and wheatgrass-infused blackberry banana smoothie.

Get Creative with Cake

Here are some inspirational cakes for your next event!  Base it on your event theme like the moroccan pillows, use your favorite photos as decoration, tie in some bright colors with citrus fruit instead of flowers, use your favorite hobby like the lighthouse or the design of your favorite painting like Monet’s Water Lilies.  It’s a great way to personalize your cake and will certainly be a showstopper at your event!
